October 2000

October was pretty interesting. I got to play with a Compaq iPAQ (very cool Pocket PC) and investigate the markup involved in Ebooks. I am an avid reader and I always enjoyed writing when I was younger, so I was fascinated at the idea of these ebooks. After downloading some software I was able to convert simple HTML files into ebook format. From about that point on I decided I wanted to be able to publish my DIS report in different formats, so the eOghaN... idea grew from there.

I was priviledged to be taken to a conference hosted by Enterprise Ireland which focused on the Japanese Imode brand of wireless telecommunications. This was handy for me since I was able to go out in Dublin that night with my friend John, and then fly to Cardiff the next morning to take part in the Welsh Senior Open Judo C'Ships. The fact that I had done f*ck all training for about 3 months showed, as I didn't even get out of the preliminary group stage. I should also add that I was WAY over my normal competitive weight...

Soon after that I got to go to Galway for the weekend to help out with the company stall at a graduate recruitment fair. Once I got into the swing of things I enjoyed chatting to all the graduates looking for jobs and I tried to imagine how my CV would compare against some of these once I graduate. We got to stay in a plush hotel and go out on the town, and since it was a bank holiday weekend we made the most of it.

My MC WAP Gateway Recommendation was finished and handed up, and the particular gateway was subsequently bundled with our 'wireless solution'.

I went home for my dad's 50th birthday party which was a great laugh. Unfortunately I couldn't make it home to Derry for Halloween. I think I was actually homesick for the first time as I sat in a pub in Enniscrone helping the barmaid with a crossword...awwwww
