January 2001

2001 started off at a hectic pace. There was lots still to do with the impending March release date, and especially now with the additional pressure of the Jan 26th Beta release. My New Years Resolution was to spend less time emailing people (I suffer from "Chronic Forward-email-funnies-to-loads-of-people-who-don't-appreciate-them Disease").

I also decided to set up an egroup for my class mates to keep in contact. I set up the uu_1998_cnl Yahoo!Group (currently 14 members!). There was an "Offsite" day on Friday 12th in the Tower Hotel, Sligo at which I participated in a demo of our product (Siemens S35 WAP).

A techie from Enterprise Ireland (source of funds for the company) also got a demo (on the Compaq iPAQ) from yours truly.

I wrote my first real Python program (mcbpcheck.py) this month. I also wrote up a document for the testers/developers which outlines all the testing tools available for use with our "Mission Control" product.

I had a visit from the Placement Coordinator on Jan 22nd. This went pretty well. I had to write up a report of what I've been up to so far. This will be published here pretty soon.

The most important thing I've done in January has been getting my thumb out and really trying to get this "eOghaN..." (Eoghan On...) thing going. I've been having all these ideas about doing different versions of this site - eOghaNZOPE, eOghaNIIS, eOghaNWAP etc to complement this eOghaNLINE site. Jan is nearly up now, and I need to start writing up the 3000 word placement report. I'd like to write up a good account of my time here. I've got loads of ideas I'd like to follow up on, but there never seems to be enough time.

I'm REALLY looking forward to getting back to UUC...
